This is a short review of the Glashütte Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Bucherer Blue edition Reference 1-36-02-04-02-33.
Excellence Perpetual Calendar BUCHERER BLUE is a joint creation by Glashütte Original and Bucherer that celebrates exquisite German watchmaking craftsmanship. All displays on this elegant timepiece are arranged to create a clear, harmonious whole: in addition to showing the panorama date, day of the week, month and leap year, this special edition wristwatch also displays the moon phase in a separate window. The dial is another highlight: it was created in a special blue hue exclusively for Bucherer and is finished by hand in Glashütte’s in-house dial manufactory. The watch fastens to the wrist with a unique rubber strap featuring a pattern inspired by the number 1888 – the founding year of Bucherer.
Traditionally, perpetual calendar watches (that do not need the day of the month adjustment hence the name perpetual) present some readability issues: the date represented in a circle is often difficult to read at first sight. The Glashütte Senator Excellence features a panorama big date to solve this problem.
This particular edition, made for Bucherer, has by default a rubber strap (a second leather strap is provided) giving it a more casual look and feel.
the dial is in the unique Bucherer Blue colour and has a very visually pleasant grained surface.
The watch is powered by the in-house calibre 36-02: a modern chronometer certified automatic movement with 100 hours of power reserve.
The moonphase, day of the week and month are easy to read. This version of the watch features modern hours markers (unlike the regular edition with roman numerals) and lance-shaped hands.
With natural light the bucherer blue looks superb. The contrast with the rubber strap complete a modern look for one of the most classic and refined complications.
